Internationalization and a focus on verticals are key to the program’s success
IMPACT Accelerator, among the top ten worldwide in the latest report from Gust
● IMPACT, the accelerator program backed by DOCOMO Digital through b-ventures since 2014, has been highlighted among the global top ten in Gust’s Global Accelerator Report, after evaluating 579 programs from five continents.
● IMPACT appears in the top ten by capital invested, for an approach that coincides with current success trends in the acceleration ecosystem: searching for projects that are going international while focused on specific verticals.
● So far, the accelerator has trained and financed 63 startups with 6.4 million euros. IMPACT has also selected 14 others to begin acceleration in September, at the same time that the second call for 2017 will launch.
Milan, 3 August 2017. – IMPACT Growth Accelerator has been named among the top ten programs in the Global Accelerator Reports created by Gust, a major platform for startups and investors. This is the second edition of an analysis which evaluates the global ecosystem of incubation and acceleration, and which has become an international reference in this area.
The study examines 579 programs and reveals a number of trends that contribute to the success of the top performers, including money contributed, internationalization and expansion in different areas of the globe, and commitment to specific verticals including Fintech, Internet of Things, Big Data and Saas. The data shows North America and Europe emerging as clear leaders in the number of initiatives and effectiveness of their programs.
Model of success
IMPACT Accelerator’s model takes an innovative and unique approach, with its core tenets being: internationalization and “de-localization,” the idea that effective acceleration can take place remotely; the pursuit of forward-looking projects; equity-free financing; high quality mentors; a training program which guides the startup founders or leaders to grow their business in a healthy and scalable way; and support for founders as they search for further rounds of funding.
The acceleration program was launched in 2014 with a disruptive approach that included a mixture of European public funding and private funds, linking the know-how of four complementary partners: ISDI, DOCOMO Digital (through its accelerator b-ventures), Seaya Ventures and Teknologiudviking ApS.
Linked to the European initiative FIWARE, in its first program, IMPACT Mobile (2014-2016), the accelerator distributed more than 6.4 million euros among 63 startups and achieved the highest rating of all acceleration programs in European mobile technology. Thanks to this and the results obtained by the accelerated projects, at the beginning of this year IMPACT, launched a new project following the same model of collaboration between leading firms and specialists in their different fields. Partners include the FIWARE Foundation, Accelerace, Mobile World Capital Barcelona and 4YFN, Kibo Ventures, Invesdor, Danone, Ferrovial Servicios, DOCOMO Digital and MADE, among others.
This new program, IMPACT Growth, aims to select and finance 28 European startups in two batches with an overall budget of 3.6 million euros. In its first selection phase, the program received and evaluated nearly 2,000 projects from 68 countries. The top 14 startups were selected from four verticals (Smart Infrastructure & Cities, Smart Content, Smart AgriFood and Smart Manufacturing) to receive 100,000 euros equity free. These projects will also receive mentoring, training, acceleration and the possibility of an additional financing of 1.5 million euros from Kibo Ventures and Accelerace.
